The Season of Lent
At Pathways, we observe the Christian tradition of Lent. This is a 40 day (not counting Sundays) period of introspection, repentance and prayer as a way of engaging in the story of Jesus Christ. During this time, we acknowledge our need for a Savior and we look with hope towards the events of Easter.
We encourage you to find a way to engage with this season.
- You may choose to "give up" something during Lent — a favorite activity or item for consumption; this is often done as a way to create space and awareness.
- You may choose to "take on" something — perhaps using the PDF Reflections for Lent (download here) as a daily meditation, or finding intentional ways of giving or serving.
- Check out this offering of thoughts to meditate on and converse about from our friends at Urban Skye: www.urbanskyesoul.blogspot.com
- For a visual journey through the stations of the cross called Bitter Journey; The Way of the Cross, go to beliefnet.com
We hope this contemplative season leads you to a place of need, a place of hoping and ultimately to a richer, deeper relationship with the One who has been sent here to proclaim good news to the poor, bind up the broken-hearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and a release from darkness for the prisoners.
Join us for our Good Friday service; March 21st 7:00pm at the Temple Events Center.

We desire for our worship to please and bless our mysterious and relational God.
We believe that there are two contexts for worship - the corporate worship ritual that we take part in on Sundays, and the acts of private worship which are practiced through prayer and service to those in need. Inside of the corporate ritual, we know it to be true that all believers have a role in the worship service - whether it's serving communion, setting up a holy place to worship, or creating visual aids for the service.
Sunday services are, by design, a ritual that we participate in together. We know it to be true that we have been created in God's image and yet we live in the tension of our fallen humanity; therefore we need the consistency of traditions and the opportunity for deliberate creative worship acts. Our corporate worship ritual consists of these traditions:
- A corporate invocation - coming together and calling on the presence of God. This may take form through song, spoken word, or liturgy.
- The Proclamation of the Word - teaching that is biblically based and relevant for spreading the gospel message.
- Thanksgiving at the Table - story telling from the body of believers about what God is doing in and around them and sharing in communion together.
- Benediction - a benediction is a blessing or prayer over the people.
